Point in Time (PIT) Count

The PIT Count is a nationwide census of people experiencing homelessness which takes place every January. The purpose of the PIT Count is to understand how many people are experiencing homelessness on Long Island and assess the needs of people living unsheltered. This data can be used to better target street outreach efforts and advocate for more resources for the most vulnerable.

The 2023 PIT Count will take place on Wednesday, January 25th. We are seeking volunteers from all walks of life, especially people with lived experience of homelessness and people with street outreach experience. Volunteers as asked to dedicate 3-4 hours of their day to canvass an assigned area and complete surveys with people experiencing homelessness on the street. Training and essential items to distribute will be provided by the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless.
